Andrea Rims / Adriana Remes / ??? ???

On 08Apr09 I responded to a request posted on CRL by Andrea Rims, a Canadian citizen born in Romania (she says), who was looking for a place to house sit for a month. I said that I didn't have a house to sit, but had a room she could stay in for the month. She stayed for 3 1/2 weeks and then left 02May09. The next day I discovered $250 in cash had been stolen from my desk.

I have contacted her and she claims to know nothing about the theft. All the evidence I have is circumstantial, but compelling. What I CAN say is:

  • Friday morning the money was there, that's when I put it in my "hiding place".
  • She was alone in the house Friday afternoon as I was out teaching.
  • Nobody else that I know of was in the house.
  • Nobody else has keys.
  • The house was not broken into.
  • On Saturday morning she suddenly left. I noticed the money gone Saturday afternoon.
  • On Friday morning she had no money and said her ATM card wasn't working.
  • She packed all her stuff up on Friday evening.
  • On Saturday morning (6am) she announced she was leaving and off she went. Now she had money for transportation and whatnot.
  • She took a network card I had lent her.
  • When I cleaned out her room I found other things that had been taken from my room.

    I would expect her to be looking for a place to "stay" and/or a place to work. When she was here (Heredia) she was looking at spas and resorts for a situation as a massuce in the central valley and Puntarenas.

    I hope I'm wrong in my conclusion. But, let this be a caution to others that may run across her looking for a palce to work or to stay...
